Steel Encasement FAQs

What Is a Steel Beam Encasement?

Encasing steel beams using PFP (Passive Fire Protection) materials insulates steel and protects the beams from high temperatures in the event of a fire. This protects steel components from damage and reduces the risk of collapse.

To leave a steel beam exposed, you must ensure that the structural steel will remain stable for a certain period of time in the event of a fire. When exposed to high temperatures, steel loses strength quickly, and so must be able to remain stable for enough time to allow evacuation and firefighting.

At Flux Fire, we use fire-resistant boards surrounding structural steelwork to stop flames and smoke from reaching steel elements for an extended period of time. We also offer intumescent coating and cementitious coatings as alternative methods for protecting structural steel in the event of a fire.

As every property is unique, we don’t offer a flat rate for steel beam encasement services. Simply contact us today, and a member of our expert team will be happy to provide a quote.
