Mezzanine Floor Fire Protection

Mezzanine floors are widely used to create additional usable space within warehouses, distribution centres, industrial units, retail premises and commercial buildings.

By making use of otherwise unused vertical space, mezzanine structures can provide additional storage, offices, production areas, picking areas and operational space without increasing the footprint of the building.

However, where a mezzanine forms part of the building’s fire strategy, its structural components may require fire protection to maintain their performance during a fire.

Flux Fire Protection installs passive fire protection systems to mezzanine floors and supporting steelwork, including:

  • Steel mezzanine beams
  • Steel columns
  • Structural joists
  • Supporting steelwork
  • Mezzanine floor soffits
  • Steel-framed mezzanine structures
  • Areas beneath mezzanine floors
  • Structural elements requiring fire resistance
  • Interfaces between mezzanine structures and surrounding construction

The appropriate system and fire resistance period will depend on the design, construction and fire strategy of the individual project.

Mezzanine Fire Protection

Specialist PROMAT Encasement Systems

Flux Fire Protection is experienced in installing PROMAT fire protection systems to structural elements within warehouse and industrial environments.

For mezzanine floor applications, PROMAT provides tested and classified passive fire protection systems using fire-resistant boards designed specifically for the protection of mezzanine structures.

Promat currently identifies PROMATECT®-XS as an A1 non-combustible board forming part of an EN-tested and classified 60-minute mezzanine floor solution. The system can be directly fixed to joists, helping to maximise available headroom beneath the mezzanine.

For applications requiring higher fire resistance, PROMATECT®-250 provides a board-based solution for mezzanine floors and steel structures, with Promat’s UK information identifying applications providing up to 90 minutes for mezzanine floor systems.

Our installation team can work from the project’s fire strategy, specification, drawings and manufacturer’s requirements to establish the appropriate system and installation methodology.
